 Manuscript Review Guidelines
2014 BTO Writers Conference

Any BTO conference attendee may arrange for a one-on-one manuscript review for a fee of $55. The writer will have half an hour, on the day of the conference, with a published author/instructor who will have studied the manuscript and can draw on professional experience to offer insights and recommendations.

This is a limited opportunity on a first-come basis. Manuscripts must be submitted prior to January 15, which will give reviewers time to consider your writing. Writers will be advised about the time and location of their reviews when they check into the conference on February 22, 2014.

Manuscript reviewers for 2014 will include Austin Camacho, Melanie Rigney, Barbara Esstman, Ally Machate, and Sue Ellen Thompson (poetry).

You may submit prose up to 25 pages for review, including a title page. Nothing over 25 pages will be read. You will receive a written review of your work at the time of your review.

FORMAT
The details outlined below are required for BTO manuscript submissions. Any MS prepared otherwise will not be accepted for review. State the genre of what you are sending: novel, short story, memoir, essay or poetry/chapbook.

FONT: Times New Roman or Courier New, 12-point

MARGINS AND SPACING:
Use 1” margins—top, bottom, left, and right.
Do not justify the lines for text—use flush left, ragged right.
Double-space only (not single, not 1.5).

TITLE PAGE:
A title page is not required, but if sent, will not be counted as part of       the 25 pages

MANUSCRIPT: Set headers for all MS text pages 1” from the top.
Upper left: Author’s name / TITLE OF WORK (use the slash and put the title in all caps)
  Upper right: Page number

The title and/or chapter number starts 3” from the top of the first page of the text. Double-space under the title and use 5-space indentions for every paragraph. Don’t forget that every piece of dialogue starts a new paragraph.

Payment for manuscript review is separate from registration. Submit your manuscript (as an attachment only) to: bfeldst@aol.com
