The BTO conference, entering its thirteenth year, is now sponsored by the Eastern Shore Writers' Association. The conference attracts writers and speakers from surrounding states and the District of Columbia to its base on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
The Eastern Shore Writers' Association is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization. Our mission is to inform, encourage, and inspire the region's writers. We strive to share helpful experiences among writers about every facet of writing, including marketing and publishing.
The one-day conference features workshops, speeches, and panel discussions on a wide variety of topics pertaining to the craft of writing, the publishing business, and the intricacies of particular genres. The 2009 speaker lineup included Thomas Sawyer, head writer for Murder, She Wrote, Internet expert Leslie Walker, Melanie Rigney on getting an editor's or agent's attention, Pulitzer Prize nominated poet Sue Ellen Thompson, Austin Camacho on creating memorable characters, George Merrill on the art of the personal essay, and literary agent Laura Strachan.
